Already in February we presented our new product line FoodClass® to you. These are UV coatings that can be applied in the indirect contact with dry and fat-including foodstuffs without the use of a functional barrier.
FoodClass relies on high-molecular photoinitiators that have a lower migration potential in the cured coating film than low-molecular substances. At FoodClass, however, we do not limit ourselves to this consideration alone, but also perform an evaluation for all other components of the coating, i.e. binders, monomers and additives. Thus, only those raw materials are used in FoodClass coatings that can be well integrated into the coating, are therefore low-migration and suitable for food packaging.
For finishing the motif: Having printed with conventional inks, the water-based FoodSafe matt coating was applied full-area. In a second pass, the FoodClass Drip Off Primer was used partially out of the last ink duct (broccoli floret). The FoodClass gloss coating was applied partially out of the coating unit for a drip off effect over the broccoli and the miniatures.
The result: a print image with three layers - slightly structured florets of a glossy broccoli on a matt surface.
